Stationary Design

For a summer project I was researching on any live briefs that were up and running at the time to keep me occupied and to participate into design competitions to gain some experience in the field of working on a live project.
I then came across Tigerprint Studio a design studio based in Bradford. This studio had 3 live competition briefs up and running which i became interested in.

The Brief I started off with was a stationary brief where the task was to create a design for a stationary set thinking of books, folders, pens, pencils, cases, rubber, sharpener. Anything quirky that could fit their design shop.

To begin with I did some research on the products they sell and different quirky and abstract stationary sets. Thinking of ideas I decided that my target audience would be teenage girls so I was to design something appealing to this particular audience. I researched on the trends of teenage girls were the emoji's, selfie's and as always fashion.

On Further research I had seen no stationary merchandise for the selfie idea so I decided to stick by this and work my way up to see what I would create. I wanted my design full of colour and vibrant to give out a sense of positive energy and vibes.

Using water colours i created this abstract background trying to give a vibrant and edgy texture. I then scanned this in to work on top of.

Using the same style of vibrant colours I try something slightly different with he background using the same technique with the watercolours blending the colours together as a base again for the background to work on top with and manipulate.

As my main idea was based on the word trend of 'Selfie' I water-coloured a camera using the technique from light to dark. However i was;t to keen on this outcome so I decided to draw another.

Getting into detail with the design shape I used the same theme as vibrant and colourful to make it look cheerful. this I really like with the use of different colours shapes within the camera as it gives it different dimensions.

Starting of with the book designs I experimented and out together a few design using my own work adding effects enhancing colours in Adobe Photoshop. Also adding the words 'But first let me take a selfie' as this is a common sentence used by my target audience.

Keeping a simple white background to contrast with the colour of the abstract background and camera. I enhanced the colour on both the camera and abstract background I created. To add type into my design I wrote the sentence and incorporated that into the background. I added a shadow and emboss effect to the camera having it pop out to give it a sense of 3D imagery.
To experiment with colour and effect I inverted the block background colour to black adding a effect on the abstract background giving out a glowing light effect. I honestly really like the the results of this experiment and feel it gives out a positive vibe.
To experiment further I tried to merge both the black and white experiments together to see the visual I cut block sharp edged shapes out to reveal sections from both designs. I could then start to see a set of 3 books.
To try and experiment with something slightly different I involved some repetition and pop art into my design. Using extreme use of the bright colours and repining the same style 4 times to create a pop art themes design. I like the way this turned out with the exaggeration of the colour.

Starting to think about making it a set of 3 all designs different but fit together as piece. The middle design I decided to draw attention more to the type but I was to develop this further and have a actual small mirror in place on the top to just final the design which is something different but effective in engaging the specified target audience.

However due to personal reasons I was unable to finish this brief in time for the closing deadline, which I was really devastated about as I had enjoyed working on this brief.
